Only in Theaters

In March of 2019 I was asked to do some productions stills for my friend and filmmaker Raphael Sbarge, for his new documentary: Only In Theaters. It was to be a film about the Laemmle family, whose legacy in filmmaking goes back to Carl Laemmle, founder of Universal Studios, and the renowned Laemmle Theaters, the beloved 84-year-old art house cinema chain in Los Angeles.

The film was to focus on the challenges of this multi-generational business and and the effect on independent film-making and filmmakers. Then came Covid, and the uncertainly of theaters in general, as well as the future of cinema was now a greater question and larger struggle.

These stills were taken of some of the filmmakers and film historians and critics that were interviewed in the film, as well as members of the Laemmle family.

I can cannot recommend this film highly enough, please go see it when it opens, and please - only in theaters.
