East Village Then & Nows

St Marks Theater, 2nd Ave. Then and Now. On my recent trip back to NYC, I went to some of the locations I shot 40 years ago just to see how things have changed (or not). Circa 1984 and 2023.

Avenue C and East 5th Street. 1983 & 2023. The building has been torn down and replaced, the empty lot has affordable housing built on it, and trees planted on the street. But the Dead End remains as does the fire hydrant (or Johnny Pump depending on your borough)
